History & Use of the Facility
The land for the Fire Station and Community Center was generously donated by the Phleger family in the early 1960s, with additional property contributed in the late 1980s.
More than 60 years ago, the Kings Mountain community came together—through volunteer labor—to build the Fire Station and Community Center for the benefit of all residents. Its primary function continues to be serving as the Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade (KMVFB) Fire Station. However, the KMVFB also encourages use of the facilities by Kings Mountain residents for non-fire protection purposes.
While community volunteer support remains vital to the management and maintenance of the building, the facility also incurs significant ongoing expenses, including electricity, propane, water, cleaning, trash removal, repairs, tree maintenance, paving, roof replacement, insurance, and more.
To help offset these costs, the KMVFB charges building use fees. These fees are designed to share expenses fairly—not to discourage use—but they do not fully cover the cost of operating and maintaining the facility. Most expenses continue to be paid directly by the Fire Brigade.
The Community Center is available for rental by Kings Mountain residents.
Please note: Rental fees are not considered donations and therefore not tax-deductible.
